🪔 Reflection Point
I decided to be more intentional about my creative personality at the start of this year, and I have had to ask myself multiple questions I believed to have known. For some, I found answers and to my surprise, other answers remain unknown for now, I believe.
The answers I have given and the in-process discovery/meditation has changed my life & have evidently given my creative sense more depth and caused me to thrive. In the bit to sustain this drip of goodness rumbling on my inside due to the truth I've found, I had to acquire a whiteboard & markers of different colours, so I could scribe them down visibly, putting them boldly before my face day by day. I intend to go through a couple of these questions and walk through discovery/answers/meditations and how it has changed my life for good.
Question 1
What exactly do I love to do or I'm passionate about? 🤔
Answer
I grew up thinking I'd always loved anything that has to do with computing, technology and the like, which is true but not totally true. After minutes of reflection, I found out that although I love anything technology, it is not the one thing I'm really passionate about. I've always been passionate about solving problems, creating from nothing and watching it grow into something that solves problems, so the reason I love technology is because it has been one of the biggest channels that have afforded me the opportunity to give expression to this passion of mine.
Discovery
Knowing this salient truth about myself, I've been able to explore other channels other than technology because tech was just a channel, not necessarily my passion. Other channels include my newsletter, giving more time to listen to people's issues and doing the needful within my capacity, knowledge sharing, and so on.
Question 2
There are a number of things I could do on an average scale, but where and what exactly should I focus on? 🧐
Answer
Seeing how I’ve constantly failed to meet up with the demands of them (all the things I could do) all, it slowly became obvious to me that my approach was not sustainable if I was truly going to portray an epitome of excellence at its peak.
Discovery
On realizing this feedback, I knew it was time to declutter, do some cleanup in my life, and have an unflinching focus on only a specific set of things in my life, where I have my greatest unfair advantage. At the end of this discovery session, I came up with some tips that suggest if an activity/task is worth doing or not. The questions go thus:
Is this activity needed for survival? 🤨
Do I cringe at the sight of this activity? 😬
Why am I doing this exactly? 💁🏽♂️
Does this activity connect with my values/goals/passion in any way? 🎯
Do I have time, good enough to make this not suffer? ⏳️
Can I delegate this?📝
Answers to these questions have been my decluttering lighthouse, and it has helped me to take some stern decisions I would not have been able to take, although super beneficial.
There are of course more questions but here's the most important takeaway. At every point you intend to take your craft further and even better, the first thing to do is to ask yourself to re-evaluate the things you've believed, so you can make adjustments where necessary and further strengthen your convictions.
📜 Quote for the week
Do more with the people you love; it makes even hard tasks pleasurable. - Dami Alagbala
😍 Favourite things for the week
🎙 Podcast: The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett: Moment 99 - Simon Sinek: The Power of Your 'Why' & How To Find It!: I listened to this in passing and I loved it, literally learnt tons from it and I hope you do as well. Check out the full interview here: The Problem with Gen Z
📑 Purchase: I bought a large size whiteboard & markers of varying colours: Yo, this changed everything, the opportunity to see my resolves, plans for the day and thoughts written boldly to my face has been a game changer. As I step into my workspace (double as my room, lol), I immediately can see everything I need to know at a sweep, with beautiful colour aesthetic. I think every creator should get one!
🎧 Audio Book: 7 habits of highly effective people by Steven R. Covey. This book just never gets old, it's a classic piece and listening to it over the course of last week during my free moments has been absolutely amazing, with a lot of practical gems to fetch from every page. I absolutely recommend it.
